Cheyenne Skin Clinic provides personalized care for children, teenagers, and adults of all ages. It’s our goal to help each patient better understand their skin and how to take care of it.
Our dermatology clinic in Cheyenne, WY provides vein treatment, skin cancer surgery, pediatric dermatologic treatment, and much more.

Sandra Surbrugg, MD
Board-Certified Dermatologist
Dr. Sandra Surbrugg has practiced dermatology since 1985. She specializes in dermatologic surgery and dermatopathology.
A native Coloradan, Dr. Surbrugg earned a B.S. as a Child Health Associate at the University of Colorado. After returning to school, she graduated with her M.D. in 1981. While at the University of Colorado, she completed an internship in pediatric medicine. She also completed her dermatology residency at CU. She is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Her professional affiliations include:

Dr. Surbrugg serves on several committees at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. She’s worked on the Credentials, Medical Records, Peer Review, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics committees. In the past, she’s also served as the Chief of Staff at CRMC. Dr. Surbrugg is also involved with the CRMC Foundation and the Laramie County Community College Foundation.
Dr. Surbrugg and her husband, Dr. Robert Prentice, enjoy skiing, bicycling, and traveling. They have two grown children.
Julie A. Neville, M.D.
Board-Certified Dermatologist
In 2007, Dr. Julie Neville joined the Cheyenne Skin Clinic. She is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon.
Dr. Neville is a native Nebraskan, where she earned her M.D. with high honors at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2002. The following year, she completed her internship in internal medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center. In 2006, she completed her chief residency at Wake Forest University Medical Center.
Dr. Neville underwent fellowship training in Mohs micrographic skin surgery at Yale University. She also completed a fellowship in cutaneous oncology there. Her career in academia and as a doctor have garnered a number of awards and honors, including:
- North American Clinical Dermatologic Society Research Award (2006)
- Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentorship Award (2005)
- AAD Fellowship Award (Attended the EADV Meeting in London, 2005)
- Jerald Schenken Outstanding Achievement in Pathology & Microbiology Award (2005)
- Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (2001)
- Nebraska Medical Foundation Student Leadership Scholarship (2001)
- Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society (1998)
Dr. Neville has completed several papers and presentations based on her research of skin cancer treatment and other dermatologic topics. Her professional affiliations include:

Dr. Neville is married and has two sons. She enjoys hiking, running, reading, and spending time with her family.
Krystal J. Massey, M.D.
Double Board-Certified Dermatologist and Pediatric Dermatologist
Dr. Krystal Massey joined the Cheyenne Skin Clinic in August of 2020. Dr. Massey is a double board-certified dermatologist and pediatric dermatologist, and the only fellowship-trained pediatric dermatologist practicing in the state of Wyoming.
Dr. Massey is native Wyomingite, having grown up in Buffalo. She earned her M.D. at the University of Washington in 2014. She then completed an internship and residency in dermatology at The University of Texas at Austin. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she later joined the faculty as an Attending Physician and Instructor of Dermatology. In addition to teaching residents and fellows during her academic career, Dr. Massey regularly published and presented her work in adult and pediatric dermatology nationally and internationally.
Dr. Massey welcomes patients of all ages for all dermatologic conditions including acne, rosacea, skin cancer, eczema and psoriasis, and has a particular interest in pediatric dermatology. She also performs cosmetic procedures such laser treatments and injectables in the Adora Day Spa.
Dr. Massey married the ‘other’ Dr. Massey atop a mountain in the Big Horns in June 2019. Paul and Krystal enjoy traveling and hiking with their dogs, Millie & Riley.
Paul R. Massey, M.D., M.P.H.
Board Certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery (Mohs Surgery)
A fellowship-trained and board-certified Mohs surgeon, Dr. Paul Massey joined the Cheyenne Skin Clinic in August, 2020.
Dr. Massey earned both his undergraduate and medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2018, he completed residency training in dermatology at the University of Texas at Austin. He then went on to complete a two-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in addition to obtaining a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree during his training.
Dr. Massey specializes in Mohs surgery and cutaneous oncology. He is interested in the care of patients hoping to detect and prevent skin cancer as well as those with squamous and basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and rare skin cancers. Dr. Massey also has a special interest in the care of skin cancer in patients who have impaired immune systems. He is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents his work at national and international meetings.
The Drs. Massey wed in Buffalo, Wyoming in June 2019. Dr. Massey enjoys golf, fishing, skiing, traveling and spending time with his family and their two dogs.
Mary O. Cole, M.D.
Dr. Mary Cole strives to equip her patients with the knowledge they need to achieve optimal health. She has called Cheyenne, WY, home since 1999, and has been a part of the Cheyenne Skin Clinic since 2001.
Dr. Cole earned her Bachelor’s degree through the Honors Program in Medical Education from Northwestern University. She earned her M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School in Illinois. During her time at Northwestern University, she trained in internal medicine, geriatrics, and primary care. Dr. Cole’s professional affiliations include:

When Dr. Cole isn’t practicing dermatology, she teaches high school and elementary-level science within Cheyenne’s homeschooling community. She also teaches at her church’s Sunday School.
Dr. Cole is a busy mother of six who enjoys running half marathons, reading a good book, and hanging out with her family. She is married to Dr. Jay Cole, a pediatric dentist.
Heather Roberts, F.N.P.
Heather Roberts is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She joined Cheyenne Skin Clinic in 2009.
She received her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Wyoming in 2005 and her Master’s in Nursing in 2007. As a nurse, Heather worked in women’s healthcare and maternal and family health. Her special interests include aging and aesthetic procedures. Her professional affiliations include:

Heather is also an active member of the Women’s Civic League in Cheyenne.
Heather has three sons. She enjoys outdoor activities. She lives in Cheyenne with her husband, Jonathon Roberts.
Michelle Dowling, DNP, FNP-BC
Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
Michelle Dowling joined the staff of Cheyenne Skin Clinic in December 2022. Michelle is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her doctoral degree in nursing at the University of Wyoming in 2016. Prior to joining the Cheyenne Skin Clinic, Michelle was a primary care provider in a federally qualified health center. She practices evidence-based medicine with a focus on primary prevention. She is a Cheyenne Native and thrilled to provide dermatological care in her hometown. Her professional associations include Wyoming Nurses Association, American Nurses Association and Sigma theta tau. Michelle is married with three children. Together they enjoy exercise and exploring the outdoors.
Alissa Aylward, MS, PA-C
Board-Certified Physician Assistant
Alissa is a Cheyenne native and received her B.S. in chemical engineering and physiology from the University of Wyoming. She then received her M.S. in physician assistant studies in 2018 from the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Alissa completed the Diplomate Fellowship program through the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants to further her knowledge and training in dermatology.

Alissa enjoys traveling, snow skiing, water skiing, country swing dancing, and spending time with family, friends, and her two dogs. Alissa and her husband, Taylor Gautreau, welcomed their daughter in 2023.
Ashley Badgley, MS, PA-C
Ashley Badgley joined the Cheyenne Skin Clinic in January 2024. She is a native of Cheyenne with her family being the fourth generation to reside here. She earned her Bachelor of Science in General Biology from the University of California San Diego in 2010. She then earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at A.T. Still University in Arizona in 2013. Prior to joining the Cheyenne Skin Clinic, her previous work includes neurosurgery and general surgery. Ashley has a special interest in both medical and surgical dermatology. She is eager to be able to serve patients from the community and surrounding areas for their dermatologic needs.

Ashley is married and has two sons. She enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, reading a good book while drinking a delicious cup of coffee, and spending time with her family and friends.
Karen Gafford, MS, PA-C
Board-Certified Physician Assistant
Karen Gafford received her Bachelor of Science at Purdue University in Dietetics and Nutrition/Fitness/Health. She went on to Colorado State University completing a Master of Science in Wellness Management, graduating in 2002. After completing her schooling, she finalized her dietetic requirements through the University of Northern Colorado Dietetic Internship Program in 2003. She joined Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in 2003 working as a Clinical Dietitian for 6 years until she decided to return to medical school. Karen attended A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona graduating with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2012.
Karen initially worked in Internal Medicine for 3 years in Fort Collins, Colorado. She and her husband Brian relocated to Arizona where she has worked in Oncology for the past 8 years at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, now owned by City of Hope. She is passionate about taking care of patients and providing high quality care. Her nutrition and wellness background provided a solid foundation in practicing medicine over the years.
Karen has special interests in dermatologic conditions including acne, eczema, rosacea, skin cancers, minor procedures, and cosmetic dermatology.
Karen and her husband Brian have relocated to Cheyenne, Wyoming to be close to their family and raise their two boys Cooper and Beaux. They also have a dog, Oscar, who completes their family. Karen enjoys adventures of any kind, sports, fitness, dark chocolate and spending time with family and friends.
